The case against Jazmine Brown is moving to a grand jury later this year. Detectives say witness statements and jail calls lead them to believe Brown was involved in a double murder that happened on September 29, 2025.
The two victims were identified in court as Kaiveon Faulkner and Marion Caldwell.
Brown stayed at the Falcon Crest Apartments in the 9000 block of Napa Valley Court. According to court documents and a detective’s testimony, Brown allowed Faulkner and Caldwell to stay with her. The two men were not on the lease.
Faulkner and Caldwell were killed while they were sleeping. It is still unclear the relationship between Brown and the victims.
A 911 caller described the shooters as three men wearing all black and ski masks. They reported hearing multiple gun shots and seeing the men run out and leave in a car.
Police found several shell casings and a gun that was reported missing. Police say Brown left her apartment open and unlocked for the killers.
Detective Brad Russell with the LMPD Homicide Unit testified at Brown’s probable cause hearing. Russell summarized a series of recorded phone calls Brown made to a person who was incarcerated. He said the calls started around September 13 and continued all the way up to the double homicide on September 29.
In one call on September 13, Brown is heard saying, “She was getting ready to back-door them.” Det. Russell explained that is another way of saying “set someone up.”
On September 19, detectives say Brown shared lyrics of a song “green lighting” the victims. That same day she also mentioned getting things out of the apartment. Detectives later discovered Brown was referring to a gun.
Police believe the shooting was supposed to happen on September 19 based on Brown’s phone conversation, but the date was moved to the next week.
Brown’s attorney questioned Russell about other suspects heard on these calls. Detectives are waiting for digital forensic results. Police believe Brown and others were on three-way calls.
In court, Brown’s attorney said, “Here are alleged phone calls between Ms. Brown and a person who is incarcerated. An individual by the detective’s own testimony seems to coordinating and ordering this event to occur who has still not been charged.”
In addition to the phone calls, Det. Russell says a witness came forward who was close to Brown prior to the shooting. The witness claims she saw Brown on a Facetime call with three men in mask and told them “the apartment is unlocked and they are asleep.”
The Commonwealth Attorney said this in court, “She tells this witness I set this plan in place. You are going to see my house on the news. She is on a facetime call with three masked individuals right before the murders saying the doors unlocked they are asleep.”
Brown was not home at the time of the murders. Video surveillance puts her at the 800 Building on South Fourth Street, which is about 20 minutes away from the crime scene.
Russell said the witness believed Brown set Faulkner and Caldwell up and that Brown admitted it to her. Police say anonymous tips also pointed back to Brown’s involvement.
Jazmine Brown is the only person who has been arrested and charged at this time. A judge found probable cause was met. Brown’s lawyer wanted her bond reduced but the judge kept it at $1 million.
The case, which will be sent to the grand jury on December 1st, is still being actively investigated by LMPD. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call their anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
