Police have announced the arrest of a man who they say led officers on a chase from Clarksville, Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky Thursday evening.
Clarksville police said the incident started around 8:12 p.m. on November 6. Officers responded to a call for service near a Walmart and then found the vehicle of the suspect, later identified by police as 22-year-old Shane Leffler, stopped at a red light on Veterans Parkway.
Police said officers pulled Leffler’s car over, with one police cruiser positioned in front of the vehicle. Once one of the officers exited his car, police said Leffler took off and tried to hit the officer and rammed the police cruiser.
Police said that is when the chase started. During the pursuit, Leffler allegedly rammed the same officer’s cruiser again and hit other civilian cars.
According to officials, the vehicle chase came to an end after Leffler crashed his car on the St. Catherine Street ramp in Louisville, but Leffler got out of the car and tried to flee on foot. Police said he dropped an AR-15-style rifle while fleeing.
Clarksville police said officers chased Leffler and eventually tased and arrested him. A passenger was detained as well, but later released.
Leffler has been charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and felony theft.
Police said no officers were injured.
