A man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of assault and criminal child abuse after a child in his care was hospitalized in critical condition last month.
Louisville Police arrested 29-year-old Jorge Jesus Ramirez-Perez on Wednesday, according to department spokesperson Aaron Ellis.
According to the citation, on October 14, 2025, a child in the custody of Ramirez-Perez was taken to Norton Immediate Care Center in Louisville due to an injury. EMS was called to the care center to transport the child to Norton Children’s Hospital in downtown Louisville due to the victim’s critical condition.
It was later revealed through medical assessments that the child’s injuries were consistent with abusive head trauma. The citation said further investigation revealed Ramirez-Perez “manipulated the victim in such a harsh way” while changing the child’s diaper.
Ramirez-Perez is being held in Louisville Metro Corrections under a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in court on December 8.
