Owensboro Police Department officials say a woman is in jail after detectives were notified that a 6-week-old infant had been hospitalized with multiple injuries.
According to a press release, detectives immediately began an investigation and both parents were transported to the Owensboro Police Department for questioning.
During the investigation, the child’s mother, later identified as 24-year-old Rachel Basham, admitted to intentionally inflicting harm on the infant, resulting in internal injuries and multiple broken bones.
Basham has been charged with Criminal Abuse in the First Degree (Child 12 or Under).
Officials say the infant remains under medical care and is reported to be in serious condition.
