
Meade County Fiscal Court heard and approved the second reading of an ordinance placing a moratorium on data center facilities during their regular meeting Tuesday (1/13) night.
The ordinance places a pause on any consideration of any future data centers for the next 365 days from Tuesday or unless the county leaders adopt a revised ordinance related to data centers. County leaders are working on creating a new ordinance that addresses the needs of the county in relation to data facilities.
In other business, magistrates approved the appointments to the Meade County Extension District Board. Charlotte Shephard appointed for the Family and Consumer Sciences and Lucy Vessels for 4-H Youth Development. The court approved Nancy Lynn to serve on the Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board of Directors. The court approved amending the job description and pay scale of the Code Enforcement Officer for Planning and Zoning.
Sheriff Phillip Wimpee presented his 2026 budget which is expected receipts totaling $2,983,650; with disbursements of $2,980,300 which will provide $3,350 in excess fees. Fiscal Court approved the budget long with a $1,765,000 salary cap for deputies. The court approved the purchase of a vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $30,000 to Flaherty Chevrolet. Magistrates approved the polices and procedures for the county detention center.
Meade County Jailer J.J. Scarborough provided a presentation and update on the Net Recovery program. The program was implemented last year as a trial to help inmates, who wanted to seek treatment and rehabilitation from their dependance on drugs. The program uses a non invasive small device, that provides non-opioid treatment that uses electrical stimulation to ease withdrawal symptoms and accelerate brain regeneration.
Kelly Dycus, a representative of the Net Recovery, said the devices is the only tool that doesn’t uses drugs to treat drug and opioid abuse. Meade County was the second jail in the nation to implement the treatment program. So far 18 people have been treated and most have became productive citizens in the community. The program is funded locally by the opioid funds from the state. Seven facilities in the state have implemented the Net Recovery Treatment.
At the end of the meeting, magistrates went into a half hour closed session to discuss proposed or pending litigation on behalf of a government agency. The court returned to take no action from the closed session.
