An inmate at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex has been charged with murder and persistent felony offender of the first degree, according to Kentucky State Police.
On September 18, 2025, a Morgan County Grand Jury returned an indictment on 45 year-old Daleon Rice, an inmate at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex. Rice was charged with murder and persistent felony offender of the first degree.
The charges come after Kentucky State Police were contacted on August 31, 2025 to conduct a death investigation.
State Police said 34 year-old Robert Broyles, of Louisville, was found unresponsive in his cell during morning count at around 8:50 a.m. on August 31.
They said life-saving measures were attempted as he was taken to ARH Hospital in Morgan County.
Broyles was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
