Charges have been dismissed against the driver in a crash on Preston Highway that left a pedestrian dead.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on December 22, 2025, in the 7300 block of Preston Highway, near Minor Lane.
Louisville police said two men were crossing in a dark section of the roadway when they stopped in the center median, which was also a turning lane. One of the men, Isaac Barkley, was then hit and killed by a vehicle heading southbound.
Louisville Metro Police said the driver, later identified as Pamela Speer, stopped and called police after hitting Barkley.
At the time, police said no charges were expected to be filed, but Speer was later be charged with manslaughter and disregarding the compulsory turn lane.
Authorities argued Speer was driving ”at a rate of speed and distance not suitable for driving in the median while the traffic in the driving lanes was at a stop,” while Speer’s attorney, during a previous court appearance, said she did nothing wrong and that Barkley had abruptly shown up in the road.
During a preliminary hearing on January 16, a judge dismissed both of Speer’s charges without prejudice, citing a lack of probable cause.
