
A Kentucky man is behind bars after a hit-and-run led to a major drug bust in southern Indiana.
According to the Clarksville Police Department, just after midnight on April 22, officers responded to U.S. Route 31 and Stansifer Avenue. after a single car had crashed.
When officers arrived on scene, they learned the driver had ran away. Inside of the car, police found methamphetamine scattered all over the front seats.
Police later found the driver, identified as Donavan Smith, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, near the Radisson Hotel in Clarksville.
Officers later learned that Smith had thrown bags filled with guns and drugs on the side of the road while he was fleeing the scene of the accident.
According to Clarksville Police, Smith admitted to passing out while driving, likely due to being under the influence of drugs.
Inside the bag that Smith had allegedly dumped, police said they discovered:
3 pounds of methamphetamine
112 grams of cocaine
51 grams of crack cocaine
94 grams of marijuana
Two 9MM handguns with a combined total of 73 rounds of ammunition
Smith is charged with dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in cocaine, unlawful carry of a handgun, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident.
He is currently being held in the Clark County Jail.
