Louisville Metro Police arrested an 18-year-old after a shooting Monday night in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood.
Officers were called just before 9 p.m. to the area of 22nd and Bank streets on reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they found a man outside with a gunshot wound.
Police said officers gave aid at the scene until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to University Hospital and is expected to survive.
Investigators with LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit later identified 18 year-old Elijah Braxton as a suspect in the case. According to an arrest citation, witnesses told police the shooting happened as two people were walking away from an argument.
Officers said Braxton allegedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire, hitting one of the victims. The citation states the victim told officers he could no longer move his lower extremities after being shot.
Police said RTCC cameras helped officers track down the suspect after the shooting. Investigators also said the handgun recovered from Braxton had previously been reported stolen from Louisville Metro Police Department.
Braxton is charged with assault, receiving stolen property and wanton endangerment.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call LMPD’s anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or submit tips through the department’s online Crime Tip Portal.
