Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced the permanent closure of a Louisville moving company following a court order from a Franklin County judge.
The judge ruled in favor of Coleman, shutting down Margaret’s Movers and barring owner Margaret Weathers from providing moving services in the Commonwealth. The court also ordered the company to pay more than $234,000 in civil penalties and consumer restitution.
In August, Coleman took legal action against the company following customer complaints. The investigation uncovered that Margaret’s Movers have failed to return consumers’ property after storage, refused to disclose the location of stored items and failed to compensate consumers for damaged belongings.
It also revealed, with the help of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, that the business had been operating illegally in Kentucky for nearly a decade.
