a 32 year-old Vine Grove man could face life in prison for murdering three people in Breckinridge County in 2023.
Tyler Wehmeyer pleaded guilty to three counts of murder Wednesday in Breckinridge County Circuit Court. He is accused of killing 77-year-old Audrey Whealan, 51-year-old Michelle Whealan and 58-year-old Doss Smothers in April 2023.
Prosecutors recommended a life sentence for each murder to be served concurrently.
The investigation into Wehmeyer began when deputies with the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office were sent to a home on High Plains Road in Vine Grove at about 4 p.m. April 5, 2023, to check on the welfare of someone inside.
When they arrived, police found the bodies of Audrey Whealan, Michelle Whealan and Smothers. All three of the victims appeared to have injuries caused by “blunt force trauma,” according to police.
Officers arrested Wehmeyer at the home just after 8 a.m. the next morning. At the time of his arrest, police said Wehmeyer admitted to killing all three of the individuals and admitted to moving two of the bodies.
Additionally, Wehmeyer admitted to killing two dogs at the home, according to police. He was originally facing animal cruelty charges as well, but those charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Wehmeyer’s sentencing is scheduled for November 4 at 9:25 a.m.
