
Around midnight on September 18, 2026, Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green was notified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol of a pursuit involving a vehicle from which shots had reportedly been fired and the driver was part of a BOLO (be on the lookout) out of Tennessee.
Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatchers advised Kentucky State Police dispatchers that the vehicle had entered Kentucky while being pursued by the Portland Police Department. Dispatchers also reported the driver had discharged a firearm.
Kentucky State Police troopers and officers from other law enforcement agencies began pursuing the vehicle as it traveled north on I-65. Despite multiple attempts to deploy tire-deflation devices, the vehicle continued north before exiting onto I-165 at Exit 20.
The vehicle continued south on I-165, then exited onto Plano Road, eventually coming to a stop on Dewey Lake Road. The driver, later identified as 26 year-old Edward Brown of Madisonville, Kentucky, and passenger, 22 year-old Anastasia Payton of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Brown and Payton were apprehended and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.
Brown was apprehended and charged with:
Attempted Murder (police officer)
Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (motor vehicle)
Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (foot)
Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree
He is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $100,000 cash bond.
Payton was apprehended and charged with:
Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree (foot)
Possession of Marijuana
She is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail without bond.
The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.
