Two people were killed and another was critically injured after a pickup truck crashed and became wedged underneath a box truck on Poplar Level Road in Louisville Monday evening.
Louisville Metro Police responded to the crash around 6:15 p.m. in the 4500 block of Poplar Level Road near Bishop Lane and Tile Factory Lane.
According to preliminary investigation, police said a red pickup truck was traveling north on Poplar Level Road at a “high rate of speed” when it entered the intersection and hit a commercial box truck that was making a left turn.
The pickup went underneath the box truck. Fern Creek firefighters had to help remove the people from the pickup.
One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was taken to UofL Hospital, where he died a short time later.
The driver of the pickup was also taken to UofL Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Two men were inside the box truck. Neither reported any injuries.
Police said they received a report of a reckless driver in a red pickup truck on Poplar Level Road just minutes before the crash. Investigators believe it was the same pickup involved in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
