A Hardin County man was charged with murder after police said his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit when he was involved in a crash Monday on Poplar Level Road in Louisville that killed two people.
Bradley Roth, 44, of Rineyville, was charged with two counts of murder, wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Louisville Metro Police responded to the crash around 6:15 p.m. Monday in the 4500 block of Poplar Level Road near Bishop Lane and Tile Factory Lane.
According to preliminary investigation, police said a red pickup truck was traveling north on Poplar Level Road at a “high rate of speed” when it entered the intersection and hit a commercial box truck that was making a left turn.
The pickup went underneath the box truck. Fern Creek firefighters had to help remove the people from the pickup.
One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was taken to UofL Hospital, where he died a short time later. The victims were identified by court documents as 56-year-old Jason Bohannon of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and 46-year-old Gregory Paulin of Prospect, Kentucky.
The driver of the pickup, later identified as Roth, was also taken to UofL Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Two men were inside the box truck but neither reported any injuries.
According to Roth’s arrest citation, a large empty bottle of vodka was found in the back seat of the pickup truck. Blood samples taken from Roth at the hospital revealed a BAC of 0.254, which is more than three times the legal limit.
Roth is scheduled to be arraigned Friday (09/25) at 9 a.m.
