A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of two women near the University of Louisville campus last month was taken into custody.
Louisville Metro police arrested 18-year-old Zion White around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Vermont Avenue with assistance from a SWAT team. White had been evading authorities for more than a month following the August 23 shooting at the Family Scholar House, which left 20-year-old Iyanna Warr and 20 year-old Trinity Durham dead.
He is charged with murder and domestic violence murder. Detectives said Friday White and Warr were in an “intimate relationship.”
According to the CEO of Family Scholar House, White was an unauthorized guest who was escorted onto the property by a resident and a friend. Leadership alleges White was inside the apartment for nearly 24 hours prior to the fatal shooting.
Family Scholar House is a nonprofit organization providing support and housing resources to single-parent students and families working to overcome poverty, housing instability, and domestic violence. In response to the shooting, organization officials announced ongoing security enhancements, including the installation of a new gate.
White had his first court appearance in the murders Friday morning to be arraigned. The prosecutor told the court that White has pending cases and requested a $1 million bond. Judge Yvette De La Guardia, after speaking to White, set a bond of $500,000 full cash with home incarceration conditions if posted. He was also appointed a public defender.
White was on the run for violating home incarceration rules on previous case at the time of the August 23 shooting at Family Scholar House.
