A Louisville man was charged after allegedly hitting two pedestrians in a crosswalk on Goss Avenue and leaving the scene earlier this month, according to an arrest citation from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Police arrested 44 year-old Jason Montgomery in connection with the crash.
Officials say that on September 3, Montgomery allegedly accelerated while turning onto Goss Avenue and hit a couple as they crossed the street with the crosswalk lights flashing. According to police, both pedestrians were thrown onto the vehicle’s hood and landed at least 10 feet away.
The crash was caught on nearby surveillance camera.
Police say Montgomery briefly stopped and opened the car door without exiting, then sped away, nearly hitting one of the victims again. Both victims were transported to a local hospital. Police reported that one sustained a concussion, bruising, and abrasions, while the other suffered facial cuts, extensive dental damage and jaw injuries requiring multiple surgeries.
Investigators identified the driver using surveillance video and records from a separate traffic stop conducted the day prior. Court records note the vehicle lacked a displayed license plate at the time of the collision.
Montgomery is charged with Assault, 4th degree (minor injury), Assault, 2nd degree, Wanton Endangerment, 1st degree and Leaving the scene of accident. He is held in the Louisville Metro Department of Correction under a $50,000 cash bond. He entered a not guilty plea. He is expected back in court October 2 for a preliminary hearing.
