A convicted felon is facing new charges after police said he fired a gun during an argument with his ex-partner, sending a bullet into a neighbor’s home.
Louisville Metro Police arrested 56 year-old Roy Melead Friday at his home on Algonquin Parkway in connection with the September 15 incident.
According to an arrest citation, Melead was arguing with his ex-partner when she began backing her vehicle down the street. Police said the woman saw Melead holding a handgun before he allegedly fired toward her vehicle.
While the shot missed the vehicle, investigators said the bullet passed through the window of a neighbor’s home across the street and lodged into a wall, causing over $500 in damage.
Court records show Melead is a convicted felon with multiple prior felony cases dating back to 2007, legally barring him from possessing firearms.
Melead is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment (discharge of a firearm), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and first-degree criminal mischief.
A judge set Melead’s bond at $100,000 cash during his arraignment Saturday. If he posts bond, he will be placed on home incarceration.
His next court hearing is scheduled for October 5.
