A Louisville teen convicted in the 2023 shooting death of 53 year-old Kenneth Maier in Irish Hill has been moved to adult custody to serve the rest of his 10-year prison sentence.
Keidrick Grinstead, who turned 18 Friday, appeared before Jefferson Circuit Court judge Eric Haner for final adult sentencing.
Grinstead previously pleaded guilty as a youth offender in January 2025 to complicity to second-degree manslaughter, possession of a handgun by a minor, receiving stolen property and criminal attempt to commit unlawful taking.
Maier was shot and killed January 26, 2023, outside Commonwealth Theatre Center near Cooper and Payne streets after confronting individuals breaking into vehicles. Grinstead was 14 years old at the time of the shooting.
During Friday’s hearing, Grinstead’s attorneys asked for probation. Haner denied the request, saying Grinstead needed to remain in custody to protect the public.
Haner ordered Grinstead transferred from the Lake Cumberland juvenile facility to the Jefferson County Jail. From there, he will be transferred to the Kentucky Department of Corrections to serve the rest of his 10-year sentence, with credit for time already served.
