One person was taken to a local hospital after a shooting Saturday afternoon in a parking lot along Campbell Lane, according to Bowling Green police.
Bowling Green Police Department Public Information, Officer Ronnie Ward said the victim was 17-year-old Michael Whitfield. Officers responded shortly after 2 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Campbell Lane.
Investigators believe a physical altercation began inside a store near the Kroger in the area, before continuing into the parking lot.
Ward said that once the people involved came outside, one person pulled out a gun and began shooting, striking one person multiple times. Two vehicles near the Kroger parking lot were also hit by gunfire, one of which contained bystanders.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police later confirmed the victim, 17-year old Michael Whitfield died in transport.
After investigating, officers have identified 24-year-old Treonte Patterson, of Bowling Green, as the person suspected of shoting Michael Whitfield.
According to the Bowling Green Police Department, at least one of the rounds fired in the direction of Whitfield struck an uninvolved vehicle occupied by seven people. No additional injuries were reported.
Patterson was arrested and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $1,000,000 cash bond. He is charged with:
Murder
Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree — 7 counts
Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
