A Louisville man awaiting sentencing in a past criminal case involving burglary and tampering with physical evidence is back behind bars after authorities said he cut off his ankle monitor in August and committed another burglary over the weekend.
Davon Jamel Johnson, 27, was arrested Sunday afternoon following an incident at a residence on Earl Avenue in south Louisville. According to court records, officers located and arrested Johnson inside a liquor store on South 7th Street.
Court records show Johnson was wanted since August 9, after the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections received a tamper alert on his GPS monitor. Officials found his severed ankle monitor on Miller Avenue, but Johnson remained at large until Sunday’s arrest.
After his arrest, Johnson was also charged inside the jail with promoting contraband and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Court records show Johnson took a plea deal in September 2025 in relation to charges that included complicity in murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of tampering with physical evidence in connection with a 2023 indictment. He was on release to the Home Incarceration Program while awaiting formal sentencing, which is scheduled for October 15 in Jefferson Circuit Court.
Johnson faces new charges of second-degree escape, tampering with a prisoner monitoring device, second-degree burglary, promoting contraband, and drug possession.
A judge set his bond at $75,000 across the new cases. According to his plea deal, the murder charge was dismissed.
