A 22-year-old man was arrested after police said he showed up with a handgun outside Trimble County High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Kentucky State Police identified the man as 22 year-old Brendan Parkin, of Doniphan, Missouri.
According to a video released by Trimble County Public Schools Superintendent Todd Neace, the incident happened around 3:20 p.m. after students had been dismissed for the day.
Students who were still inside were quickly moved away from the area and the doors were locked. Neace said Parkin never got inside the building.
A staff member was leaving the school when Parkin pulled a weapon on them, according to Neace. The staff member called 911.
Kentucky State Police said troopers arrived in less than three minutes and arrested Parkin in the front parking lot without incident.
Parkin is charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, alcohol intoxication in a public place and violation of conditions of release.
The suspect did not get inside the school, and no one was injured.
Court records show Parkin was already facing 14 charges in a separate Trimble County case involving possession or distribution of material portraying sexual performances by minors.
Parkin pleaded not guilty to those charges in July 2025 and posted a $50,000 bond. His release conditions included no further violations, no contact with minor children, no electronics and no internet access.
The investigation is ongoing.
