Police have made a second arrest in connection with a September quadruple shooting in the Russell neighborhood.
Willnesha Lewis, 35, has been charged with assault and wanton endangerment. She was taken into custody Sunday.
Police said the arrest stems from a September 11 incident in the 1000 block of Esquire Alley, where Lewis and 29-year-old James Ditto were involved in a dispute with two other people inside a liquor store.
According to police, Lewis opened her purse and angled it toward Ditto, who then reached inside and grabbed a gun. The dispute continued outside the business and spilled into a nearby courtyard on Esquire Alley, where police said Ditto and two other people engaged in a gunfight.
Multiple rounds were fired from three handguns, according to police.
A 53-year-old woman was struck in the leg. Two men, ages 28 and 29, who were involved in the gunfight, as well as a 16-year-old, were also struck by gunfire.
Police said surveillance video captured Ditto circling the building while armed and approaching the people in the gunfight from behind. Police said he struck one person in the back of the head with the butt of a handgun.
Ditto then grabbed the person’s firearm and began leaving the scene, according to police. He was also captured on video removing his shirt and intentionally hiding the handguns as officers responded to the scene.
Police said investigators were able to identify Lewis through investigative measures.
Lewis is currently being held at Metro Corrections and is scheduled to appear in court on October 13.
