A death row inmate died in custody exactly 29 years after being sentenced to death in relation to a fatal stabbing and sexual assault in Hazard, according to a news report.
The inmate, 59-year-old Donald Johnson, died October 1 inside the only maximum security prison in the state, the Kentucky State Penitentiary.
Johnson’s death was confirmed October 5 by the Department of Corrections, who said the cause of death “does not appear to be involved in any criminal activity”.
The Lyon County Coroner would not release the cause and manner of death during a pending autopsy.
