A man was sentenced Wednesday after he was convicted of a deadly shooting inside a Taylor Boulevard convenience store in 2024.
A judge sentenced Gage Lewis to 20 years in prison without the possibility of probation or shock probation. He was convicted back in August for shooting and killing 21-year-old Dion Smith Jr. on May 18, 2024, inside the Speedy Mart in the 4400 block of Taylor Boulevard near Southern Parkway.
Lewis also must serve 85% of his sentence before he can be considered for parole.
Police said Lewis shot and killed Smith inside the store. Another man was also shot but survived.
Lewis was 18 when he was arrested the day after the shooting. According to court records, Louisville Metro Police identified him using surveillance video.
The judge also said Wednesday that because the jury struggled with the question of the initial aggressor during the trial, she would consider the defense’s motion for a new trial.
