A Irvington man charged in connection to last week’s shooting in Garfield had his initial court appearance on Tuesday (3/29).
A not guilty plea was entered by District Judge Harold Goff on behalf of 22 year-old James Michael Wardrip of Irvington; who is charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of 22 year-old Brandon Williams, also of Irvington.
Wardrip told authorities he shot Williams after Williams allegedly pointed a gun at him after Williams shot and killed 34 year-old Johnny Ray Thompson following an altercation at the old Ashland/Taco Bell parking lot last Thursday (03/24) in Garfield. Thompson and Williams were arguing over a girlfriend.
Wardrip informed Judge Goff that he had legal counsel, but they were not present Tuesday morning. A preliminary hearing was set for Friday (04/01) afternoon.
