An Indiana man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase through Breckinridge and Meade Counties on Saturday (3/2) afternoon.
Police in Breckinridge County responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Hardinsburg. They found the driver, 25-year-old Daniel Thomas Ashley of New Albany, responding to lights siren by accelerating the vehicle and reaching speeds of 100 miles an hour and improper passing of vehicles, even with a passenger asking him to stop.
Ashley swerved from one set of spike strips, clipping a police vehicle. The pursuit went into Meade County, where a second set of spike strips punctured the passenger side tires. Ashley wrecked the vehicle near Brandenburg and fled on foot with a K9 unit later locating him and bringing him into custody.
Ashley was treated and released from Hardin Memorial Hospital and booked into the Breckinridge County Detention Center on charges including, wanton endangerment, assault, speeding, improper passing, reckless driving and carrying a concealed weapon among others.
It was the second time in three days that local law enforcement were involved in a high-speed pursuit: on Thursday night, another Indiana man fled from police near Hensley in Breckinridge County to near Maceo in Daviess County before wrecking his vehicle.
