
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through a lengthy agenda during their regular meeting Tuesday (4/14) evening.
At the beginning of the meeting, magistrates received negative feedback from related to the process how building permits are issued in the Planning And Zoning office. A local builder and his client told magistrates a review is needed on how permitting is conducted in order to quicker service and assist builders with the struggles as they juggle resources during the beginning of the construction process. Judge Executive Troy Kok told both men that he would like to schedule a meeting in May with all builders and county leaders to discuss issues that builders face with the permits.
In other business, the court approve a proclamation designating April 13-18 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week for the county E911 dispatchers. Assistant E911 Director Vickie Greer read the proclamation and was recognized for her many years of service a dispatcher for Meade County. Greer began as a telecommunicator in 1978 and has worked in some capacity in E911 Center either full time or part time for during her career. She plans to retire on April 30, according to E911 Director Jeremy Miller, who said a retirement reception is planned to be held for Greer on Monday, April 27 from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at the Meade County Extension Office.
In other business, magistrates approved the the creation of a part time GIS/GPS technician position and an employee contract with EMS. They also Solid Waste Recycling job positions that would define various tasks instead of all positions classified as a laborer. Magistrates approved the lowest qualified bid of a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe between Flaherty Chevrolet and John Jones Chevrolet for new EMS Director vehicle. The court also approved to seek bids for an IT Consultant and fuel bids for the upcoming fiscal year.
County leaders reported more progress toward the county’s ownership of Otter Creek Park. Fiscal Court approved the second reading of an ordinance which creates a park management program and related resolutions establishing parking and access fees; rule and regulations; and
event permitting and fees. the regulations will be implemented and posted upon once Otter Creek Park is deeded to the county by the Kentucky department of Fish and Wildlife.
The court approved seven first reading of ordinances related to rezoning requests from Planning and Zoning. Among the list, residents along D.E. Brown Road voiced concerns on a zoning request from R4 to B2 for plans to operate a equipment maintenance shop for tree service business. The owners of the business said that their employees would work from another location and the requested site would be just to work on equipment and bookkeeping. The court approved the request.
Magistrates entered into a hour and half closed session for discussions related to proposed litigation against or on behalf of the public agency; discussions between a public agency and a representative of a business entity concerning a specific proposal, if open discussions would jeopardize the siting, retention, expansion or upgrading of the business; and discussions related personnel matters. Magistrates returned from the closed session and voted to terminate an employee for policy violations.
