
Magistrates of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through several items on their agenda Tuesday (4/13) night during their regular meeting.
Paul Sanders, Engineer for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, provided magistrates with details about this year’s Rural Secondary Road Program. Meade County will receive $1,207,444 for projects including the resurfacing of Kentucky 1735 from State Roads 1238 to 333 and a 7 mile stretch of Kentucky 228 from state roads 144 to the 7 mile marker. Other funds in the program can be used for other county maintained roads. Fiscal Court unanimously approved the projects and funds.
In other business, the court approved the reappointment of Jeana Turner for a three year term on the Industrial Authority. They approved a resolution for a state grant related to the Nucor Steel project funding along with a resolution and agreement for the County Road Aid. Magistrates approved the Meade County Conservation District’s request to form an Ag District on Fairgrounds Road. The court accepted the Meade County Extension District budget for 2021-2022.
Judge Executive Leslie Stith read a resolution in support of Telecommunicator Week for the county E911 Dispatchers. He thanked the telecommunicators who were in attendance at the meeting for their dedication and service to the county. Judge Stith also read a proclamation for Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Day to be observed on April 16.
The court heard and approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the Solar Ordinance. The court discussed the issue and hear some comments from some who impacted by the amendment. Road Supervisor Jeff Padgett brought several needed items before the court. He said that the items had been put on hold due to the uncertainties related to the funds caused COVID-19. He asked the court to seek bids on two new dump trucks, a new sweeper broom, bush hog, and automotive code scanner and annual software support. The court approved moving forward on those items and also approved a contract extension with Compass Minerals for road salt at the current bid pricing previously approved.
Judge Stith invited the community to come and join county leaders as they dedicate the new Meade County EMS Station 1 on Armory Place this Saturday (4/17) at 11:30 AM. A ribbon cutting will be held along with tours of the building that houses the operations of county’s EMS and Coroner.
