An Owensboro man was arrested Wednesday morning after pulling a knife on a deputy sheriff, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a home in the 1700 block of River Road around 7 a.m. to arrest 53 year-old Joseph S. Preston on felony warrants.
The sheriff’s office says Preston went out the back door, hid behind a tree, and then tried to outrun deputies.
Deputies say Preston fought back while they were arresting him.
Preston allegedly pulled out a knife and created a risk of “serious physical harm or death” to the deputies.
Deputies say Preston was put in a chokehold and dropped the knife, which ended the struggle.
He was treated for minor injuries at the hospital before being booked into the Daviess County Detention Center. He faces charges of:
Wanton Endangerment
Fleeing or Evading Police
Resisting Arrest
Buy/Possess Drug Paraphernalia
Warrant – Failure to Appear
Warrant – Probation Violation for Felony Offense
Preston is being held under a $20,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 17.
