
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court moved through several action related to repairs and appointments during their regular meeting Tuesday (6/8) evening.
The court first conducted a public hearing related to additional bond revenues of $200,000 from the state related to the Nucor Steel construction project. No one spoke at the hearing and magistrates approved the bond resolution. The court then approved the reappointments of Tina Stith to the Payneville Fire Department District Board; William J. Vowels to the Flaherty Fire Protection District Board; Wayne Stull to the Battletown Fire Protection District Board; and Adam Whitford to Ekron Fire Protection District Board. Magistrates approved a bid for Joe Mangin as the IT Director the upcoming fiscal year. The court also approved new EMS hires for paramedics.
Corissa Walters, EMS Director presented an update on a whirlwind of projects in her first week on the job. She outlined new structure in for the EMS department by implementing crew leaders to continue the chain of command across all shifts. Her first goal is to hire needed help to get the EMS service fully staffed and reduce fatigue and overtime. She said asked Fiscal Court to proceed to purchase a new ambulance which was budgeted in the current fiscal year. Walters said new handheld radios had been purchased along with radios for the back of the trucks which will help the department communicate. Using a recent donation from a local business man along with savings on the new ambulance, EMS has purchased three new Life Line automatic pulse devices for cardiac patients.
The court approved the bidding, selection, and payment of a new ambulance; along with a replacement roofs at EMS Station 2 in Flaherty; and the Detention Center. They also approved the second reading of the proposed 2021-22 Fiscal Year Budget which totals $22,733,985 to begin on July 1.
Magistrates heard and approved the first reading of a Planning and Zoning ordinance to reduce minimum lot sizes from 1.2 acres to .9 acres for single family dwellings in R-1, R-2, R-3, and R-4 zones. As a result of a half hour closed session, magistrates returned to approve a payment of $30,000 for a deposit on a parcel of property. No other details were provided on the issue.
Judge Executive Leslie Stith announced a special called meeting to finalize the current fiscal year would be held at 9 am on Thursday, June 24. He also announced due to schedule conflicts, the July regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 20 at 7 pm.
