
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court set the 2021 tax rates during their regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday (8/10) night.
Magistrates kept the tax rates the same as the current tax year for motor vehicle and watercraft at 13.40 cents per $100 of accessed value; real property at 21.60 cents per $100 of accessed value; personal property at 37.34 cents per $100 of accessed value and merchant inventory tax at 19 cents per $100 of accessed value. The court approved the appointment of Ronnie Williams to the Payneville Fire Department Board of Trustees.
County Clerk Judy Jordan asked Fiscal Court to seek a contract for GIS services from Lincoln Trail Area Development District for the upcoming adjustment of county districts. She also reported that the county board of elections are seeking a space large enough to host the three day of early voting during the 2022 elections.
Tom Bridge provided a report on the latest review of the county’s planning and zoning comprehensive plan updates. He said that a steering committee composed of 19 individuals provide strong input and concluded no changes were needed on the goals and objectives for the plan. The committee wants to continue with quarterly progress reviews of the plan to able to keep the plan current for the future needs of the county along with developing a better work flow of information for future planning to the utility and education sectors to allow guidance for their future planning. Judge Executive Leslie Stith thanked Bridge and the committee members for the work and dedication on the latest review of the comprehensive plan.
In other business, the court opened two bids for a new cardboard truck for the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. Magistrates voted to purchase the preferred choice of the department upon review of the bids. They also approved creating a driver/ maintenance operator position and related pay scale at Solid Waste and Recycling.
Brian Hamilton and Sarah Hamilton Dukes approached fiscal court about renewing a lease agreement for the Wolf Creek Boat dock in order to keep it open to the public. They recent inherited the property and they are seeking a ten year lease with the county, who will take action upon an agreement during the September regular meeting.
Magistrates met during an closed session about a half hour which resulted in no action being taken.
