
Members of the Brandenburg City Council heard and approved the first reading of three ordinances which would annex three properties into the city limits.
The property owners, which include Mike Jones, Carl Austin, and Chris McGehee are voluntarily asking for the annexation for access to city utility services. Jones’ property is along the Bypass before the traffic light at 933. Austin’s property is a commercial property which is adjacent to his existing strip mall on Old Ekron Road. McGehee’s property is located near the intersection of the Bypass and Kentucky 228 which is expected to be developed into residential housing. A fourth annex request made by Newcomb Oil is being held until the completion of ongoing land acquisition. Council members unanimously approved the first readings and plan to conduct the second readings during their next regular meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Ronnie Joyner asked a for a moment of silence in honor and to remember former council member Patsy Lusk, who died a couple weeks ago. Lusk was extremely active in community events and also served on the council about 15 years.
In other business, the council approved a rezoning request approved by the city planning and zoning commission to rezone a parcel of property at the corner of Bud Wilson Road and Christian Church Road. Mayor Joyner presented Karen Ilario a certificate awarding the her the honor of the October Yard of Month.
Mayor Joyner reported to the council that he has had discussions with the state regarding grant funding related to the Main Street Side walk project. He said that he is awaiting guidance if the city can procced with the project in smaller phases and apply for additional grant funds for other phases due to the sudden increase in costs for the project. He said if the city abandons the project for the time being, the city will have to pay for the plan designs and engineering already completed for the project.
The city council set Trick or Treat hours to be held on Halloween from 5:30 until 8 pm Sunday, October 31, 2021.
