
Magistrates of Meade County Fiscal Court heard from the public during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (10/12) night.
The court received criticism related to issues related to the latest edition of the nuisance ordinance adapted nearly two years ago. The ordinance has worked in some cases and in others has not been able to provide desired remedies by some. Recently county leaders and the some members of the county planning and zoning commission discussed some of the issues during a work session. Magistrates have worked for years attempting to craft a fair ordinance for a case by case scenario and appear to returning to the drafting table for adjustments to address current concerns being voiced.
Fiscal Court also heard from several residents who are a against a rezoning request of R-1 to B-2 for a 56 acre farm along Lees Lane. The owners asked for the zoning request to build a RV and ATV park. Several residents attended the meeting and a few spoke to voice their position against the rezoning citing safety and traffic concerns along with the proposal did meet any goals of the county’s comprehensive plan. The Planning and Zoning commission voted against the request and ask Fiscal Court to follow their recommendation. After some discussion, the court voted 5 to 1 supporting the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation.
In other business, Fiscal Court approved a request for $3,000 from the City of Brandenburg for the annual Christmas By The River event along the Brandenburg Waterfront. Danny Ernest was appointed to the County Ethics Commission representing the Fourth District. Magistrates approved the extension of the a lease agreement with Baptist Health to continue use of the facilities until a formal long term lease could be presented. Judge Executive Leslie Stith asked Fiscal Court to approve a bid for the design plans of a replacement building for EMS Station 3 in Payneville. He said the plans would be for a new building to be built upon about an acre parcel of land next to the Payneville Fire Department, which would be given to the county by the fire department.
County leaders also approved a request from the County E911 Center to bid updated phone system equipment which replace equipment that is nearing end of technology life and bring the center closer in step NexGen 911 operations. They also approved seeking bids for eight additional new roll off boxes for the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. The court also accepted the County Library tax rates which remain the same as several concurrent years.
Fiscal Court set Trick or Treat hours across the county from 5:30 until 8 pm on Sunday, October 31.
