
The Brandenburg City Council worked through their regular agenda on Monday(4/11) night.
At the beginning of the meeting, the council awarded the April Yard of The Month to Mr. & Mrs. Mark Spry on Hillcrest Drive. Council members heard and approved the mostly clean audit report for the 2020/21 fiscal year presented by Sammy K. Lee, CPA. Lee said that the city finances are in order and the biggest area to work on was determining some inventory control measures to better define the city’s assets.
In other business, the council approved the second reading of an ordinance establishing the monthly pay rate for the Mayor at $2,000 and council members at $250 per month. The ordinance will be effective on January 1, 2023. Mayor Ronnie Joyner informed the council that Louisville Gas & Electric had contacted him about changing existing street lights to LED fixtures. Mayor Joyner said that it was discovered in their audit of lights that several fixtures had not been billed. He said that that issue was resolved with an five year agreement between the utility and the city.
Mayor Joyner and Councilman Bradley Johnson provided an update on the water well treatment and wastewater treatment plant projects. Representatives from the city recently visited a water treatment plant near Salt Lake City to conduct further research on the proposed treatment for magnesium. Water samples taken in the past few weeks are being examined by a laboratory and will provide solid theory on the proposed treatment process. A special called council is expected to further discuss the findings and t determine the next steps t resolve the issue.
Mayor Joyner reported that the waste water treatment plant construction project is on schedule. The biggest issues are related to equipment delivery. Coordination of the beginning processes are being planned to start the operation of the new facility. Councilman Johnston said that the city will to purchase some laboratory equipment which was not included in the project to maintain operations.
Mayor Joyner asked the council to approve a geological survey on a proposed site for a new water tower along Mooreman Road. The cost of the survey is $3,500 which was approved the council.
He also asked the council to approve the purchase of sewer pipe for a new development along Old Ekron Road which is planned to have four commercial and 39 residential sewer connections. The purchase would hinge on the condition of the developer to sign a contract to guarantee the amount of the 39 connection fees to reimburse the city. After one discussion the council approved the request.
