
The Brandenburg City Council approved several ordinances during their regular meeting Monday (9/12) night.
The Council heard and approved the second reading of ordinances which takes the compensating rate adjustments setting the real property tax rate at 0.207 cents per $100 of accessed value, personal property 0.3945 cents per $100 of accessed value and 0.3280 cents per $100 of accessed value on motor vehicle and watercraft. The council also approved the second reading of the ordinance amending and adopting the Planning and Zoning 2018 Residential Code and the Yard Sale Ordinance.
The council heard the first reading of ordinances related to rezoning property parcels in the River Ridge Plaza. The ordinances brings the zoning for all of the parcels to C-2 status. They also heard the first reading of three ordinances to annex property from the current south eastern limit boundary to Nelson Lane which includes property owned by Mike Jones, Newcomb Oil and G&FF. The second reading of these ordinances will be held during the council’s October meeting.
Mayor Ronnie Joyner asked the council’s approval to enter into an interlocal agreement with Meade County to construct a entrance between the perimeter road of Nucor to the new waste water treatment plant. Most of the entrance will use existing road be from the old Buttermilk Falls Road. The agreement will allow the city purchase the materials and the county to construct the entrance.
The council approved moving forward with the downtown sidewalk project which has been stalled due to material costs. Mayor Joyner said the cost of the project would be $937,685 with the state providing a 80 percent grant funds. The city would have to provide the remaining 20 percent which would total $188,000.
Public Works Director T.J. Hughes reported to the council that crews have been working to resolve issues of brown and murky water across the city. He said that after making a few adjustments that the issue was a clogged supply line at the water treatment plant. Once the repairs are finalized, crews will begin to the conduct fall hydrant flushing to purge the manganese from the water lines. Hughes said that water is safe to drink but may not be cosmetically pleasant. Flushing could start as soon as the end of this week.
