A Radcliff man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the shooting death a woman in November 2021.
Richard Allen Cook, 43, was sentenced last week in Hardin Circuit Court on charges in the death of Jessica Kelly of Pennsylvania. Kelly and Cook were acquaintances.
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of November 4 inside a Custer Street home near Rineyville. Cook was arrested by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office about an hour after a caller reported the shooting to a 911 operator around 4:15 a.m. that day.
Sheriff John Ward said at the time the shooting was at the residence of Cook’s grandmother, who was at home at the time.
Cook’s sentence is the result of a plea deal reached after mediation with a special judge, according to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Carr. He received 20 years on the murder charge and five years on a tampering with physical evidence charge, to run consecutively.
Carr said the resolution is a good result for prosecutors and added the role of a special judge is to look at strengths and weaknesses for both sides and arrive at the likely trial result.
