Members of Meade County Fiscal Court met during their regular meeting Tuesday (1/10) evening which drew several onlookers for the first regular meeting led by Judge Executive Troy Kok.
The court approved a deed and access easement for a new proposed water tower for the city of Brandenburg. The land is owned by Nucor Steel and the new storage tank would assist with water supply for the industrial property in area for the city of Brandenburg. The court approved requested salary caps for staff in the county clerk and sheriff’s office. They also approved a calendar year budget of $10,225,850 for the County Clerk and a $ 2,246,4000 budget for the sheriff’s department.
Fiscal Court heard issues related to a entrance to property at 45 Four Oakes Road. The approximate two acres of land is land locked and needs an entrance from a county maintained road that is located within the city limits of Brandenburg. Bill Coroum spoke about the issue and asked for guidance of how to get a entrance installed. County Attorney Sidney Durham said that she felt that request should be made through the County Road Department and Planning Zoning before and any action could be taken by Fiscal Court.
The court tabled action on a rezoning request related to the Battletown Quarry property. Several were in attendance at the meeting but no one spoke on the issue. Planning and Zoning Director Chris Kincade said that one meeting between residents and the quarries had taken place with additional meetings to be scheduled in an effort to work out a compromise on the issue. Fiscal Court will be just a 60 days of a 90 windows to intervene with any action on the issue.
Magistrates voted 4 to 2 on the first reading of an ordinance which would create a Code Enforcement Board for the county. 5th District Magistrate Steve Wardrip and 6th District Magistrate Trey Webb voted against the measure. The court did approve the first reading of the property maintenance ordinance. County Attorney Durham recommended that a recently approved first reading of a proposed ordinance that would accept private roads into the county system be rescinded to allow some items to be moved around for procedural clarity. Once the reworked ordinance has been drafted it will be presented to Fiscal Court.
Court members tabled the second reading of the Solid Waste And Recycling ordinance. They approved a request made by Judge Executive Kok to advertise to search a new Parks Director after Dan Lancaster gave notice of retirement effective at the end of July.
Judge Executive Kok made a proclamation that the fourth Saturday in April will be Buttermilk Falls Trail Day. He also announced a town hall meeting will be held in Muldraugh on January 19 at 6:30 pm at Muldraugh City Hall. The meeting will allow residents the opportunity to voice concerns and interact with local officials on topics that they feel are important to them.
