Nelson County deputies arrested a Bardstown man after officials say he acted erratically during a reported mental health crisis, fought with deputies, and later assaulted a paramedic.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a home on Loretto Road on Monday, June 1, for a report of a man experiencing a severe mental crisis. Deputies identified the man as 23 year-old James Pinkston, who the agency says was highly manic and later determined to be under the influence of narcotics.
Deputies say they tried to de-escalate the situation, but Pinkston was non-compliant. The sheriff’s office says the situation escalated when Pinkston attempted to attack a deputy and tried to enter an agency vehicle. After a physical struggle, deputies were able to subdue and take him into custody.
Because of his altered mental state, Nelson County EMS responded to evaluate Pinkston. While being treated in an ambulance, deputies say Pinkston kicked a paramedic in the chest.
