A few changes are planned for the 2024 Meade County Fair as board members finalize plans.
During the annual Meade County Fair Board Dinner Tuesday (3/5) evening, Fair Manager David Pace provided updates for the upcoming week of family fun. He said the event won five awards including the Zone 1 Show Your Colors Award; Largest Delegation Award; All Kentucky Fair Award; Most Zone 1 Division B Most Progressive Fair Award; and Best Catalog.
Pace also announced one major event change in the lineup for Wednesday night is the addition of the Lonestar Rodeo in the upper arena. The board decided to replace the mudsling due to declining participation. He also said the Monster Trucks would not be in attendance this year and the board is pursuing entertainment for the main arena.
Pace said negotiations have been ongoing for while with Kissel Entertainment, who has provided the carnival at the fair for the past 50 years. He said that a new four contract has been negotiated resulting in a price increase at the gate. The gate price will be $15 Monday through Saturday resulting in the only price increase since 2018. The 2023 Fair had an estimated 35,000 in attendance during the full week. Pace said the $15 gate is still lower than some neighboring county fairs in the region. The new contract secures the fair to be held on the last week in July during the next four years.
Improvements around the fairgrounds include upgrades and additions to the food booths and an expansion of the pit area staging of equipment for the truck and tractor pulls and demolition derby events.
Jamie Barger was named the 2023 Fair Person Of The Year for his work replacing and updating the livestock wash rack and digital scales in the barn area which was funded by KAPE grant funding.
The 2024 Meade County Fair will take place on the July 20 through 27, with workdays to be held on July 18, 19, and 20. WVIH.com will be your one stop for all of the fun of the Meade County Fair.
