Officials in Meade County celebrated a new partnership to revive the campground area at Otter Creek Park.
Representatives from Meade County Fiscal Court and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife held a ribbon cutting Thursday (3/28) and highlighted improvements. Campground Manager Zach Butler said the county’s reasons for taking on this new venture was to provide a family centered experience and begin work to restore the facility to match the community pride it once had. Meade County Fiscal Court leases the campground area from the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife and is responsible for maintaining the upkeep of just the campground area with proceeds from camping fees to go toward updates and future improvements in the area. Among noticeable upgrades, the county has installed wifi and has transitioned to a cashless reservation system.
County leaders hope the partnership will lead to other opportunities in the future for Otter Creek Park. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife took over the management of Otter Creek Park from Louisville Metro Government, who had closed the park due to the high maintenance costs. Otter Creek Park is the only park managed by the Fish and Wildlife.
