County leaders approved remaining claims and transfers needed to close out the operating budget of the county. They also approved a new budget line for Opioid abatement funds. According to County Treasurer Tammy Graham the funds were already apart of the proposed 2024-25 fiscal year budget. The new line item would allow for easier accounting of the funding related to opioid programs.
Magistrates approved the reappointment of Bonita French to the Ekron Fire Protection District.
Fiscal Court approved a resolution authorizing a referendum to determine whether medical cannabis business operations may occur in Meade County. Local leaders have until July 1st to make a decision as to what they are wanting to do with the topic to be submitted to the state. Judge Executive Kok said that the citizens should decide what they want. If approved, the county could possibly get one of twenty cannabis dispensaries that the state is expected to license across the commonwealth. The state is expected to issue one licenses per area development districts in the state except for Jefferson and Fayette Counties which are expected to have two licenses. The Referendum will appear to voters on the upcoming November ballot.
