A welfare check in West Point leads to drug trafficking arrests and child endangerment charges Tuesday morning.
On July 1, 2025, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Deputy Timmy Walker and West Point Fire Department responded to a welfare check at the N 4th Street Boat Ramp parking lot in West Point.
The caller reported two unresponsive adults in a black Ford Mustang, with a baby crawling around the vehicle.
Upon arrival, Deputy Walker found the vehicle windows down, engine off, and a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. The baby was wearing only a diaper and was crawling around the front passenger side, within reach of drugs and a loaded handgun.
Deputy Walker and West Point Fire Department used sternum rubs to awaken the male driver and female passenger. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana—both individually bagged—along with a loaded .22 caliber handgun, digital scales, a meth pipe, and other drug paraphernalia. The evidence is consistent with drug trafficking.
The child was transported by Bullitt County EMS to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville for evaluation. Child Protective Services later took custody of the infant.
Both the male and female adults refused EMS transport and hospital evaluation.
