A Louisville Metro Police officer reportedly fired shots in an incident just before midnight Wednesday.
Officers were called to 2900 block Dumesnil Street on a report of an intoxicated, suicidal person with other family members present.
When they arrived, they found a man in the back of the residence with a gun. Officers ordered the subject to drop his weapon. The man then pointed his weapon at the officer. An officer fired in response.
Initial witness reports stated the man had fired at police first but that was later determined to be incorrect.
Garad Amir Garad is charged with wanton endangerment, strangulation, 4th degree assault, and wanton endangerment of a police officer.
Garad was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. He is presently lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
