Kentucky State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Boston Road and Bennett Lane in Nelson County around 3 p.m. Monday that resulted in a fatality.
The preliminary investigation revealed that 77 year-old Laura Gilpin, of Bardstown, was operating a 2019 KIA westbound on Boston Road when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger operated by 26 year-old Jasmine Simpson, 26, of Lebanon Junction.
Gilpin was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Simpson and a juvenile passenger were transported to University of Louisville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The affected portion of Boston Road was closed for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. Kentucky State Police Post 4 was assisted at the scene by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The collision remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
