A bus driver who was supposed to be transporting children was arrested for a DUI in Oldham County, according to police.
Oldham County Police responded to concerns regarding a bus driver who was scheduled to be transporting children from the Aquatic Center to the Oldham County YMCA, but was around 30 minutes late.
Officers found the driver, 52-year-old Melissa Dowell, parked outside the Aquatic Center with the bus running. According to police, a strong odor of intoxicants was coming from Dowell. She also was slurring her speech, had glassy eyes and was unsteady on her feet.
A field sobriety test was done, which led to Dowell being arrested for driving under the influence.
Dowell was taken to Oldham County Detention Center.
No children were on the bus at the time of the arrest.
Alternate transportation was arranged for the children.
