A Breckinridge County man has served seventeen years of a 20 year sentence for a gruesome attack on his neighbor and is now scheduled for an early release.
The attacker and convicted rapist will soon be walking the streets again after family members of the victim found out through a Victim Information and Notification Everyday or Vine alert that his sentence was cut short.
On June 17, 2009, Ernest Pine pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, attempted murder, burglary, second-degree assault and criminal mischief in exchange for a 20-year sentence. The case involved the 2007 brutal sexual assault and attempted murder of his Hardinsburg neighbor.
According to court documents, Pine cut the victim’s throat, raped and sodomized her. The victim played dead at one point during the attack so that Pine would leave.
Pine has served 17 years of his sentence, and family members of his victim said the Vine alert notified them that Pine will be released on August 19.
Wednesday, Pine appeared before a Breckinridge County judge, who ordered him to have no contact with the victim or her family upon his release.
