A man is in custody after a lengthy SWAT standoff in Shively Thursday evening, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2700 block of Woodmere Avenue around 1:30 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant for three counts of wanton endangerment, according to LMPD spokesperson John Bradley.
Once they arrived, a woman answered the door and told deputies the man was not inside. However, other deputies could see inside and saw the man holding a rifle, according to police.
Bradley said the Sheriff’s Office contacted Louisville Metro Police Department SWAT and a perimeter was set up soon after. SWAT then tried to get the man to come out of the house.
After several attempts and using drones to get a layout of the house, SWAT made entry into the home.
The man then fired several rounds at the officers, however, the man surrendered and was taken into custody after SWAT used tear gas and “flash bangs.”
Bradley said no one was injured.
LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit will be handling the ongoing investigation. Charges will be determined at a later time.
