A Barren County man is in jail following a shooting Thursday evening on Oil Well Road.
According to the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 37-year-old Wesley J. Houchens after responding to a reported shooting in the Roseville community.
An arrest citation states Houchens pointed a gun at another man’s head, then struck him in the ribs with the weapon, leaving a visible mark.
The man told authorities Houchens also choked him against a porch post, making it difficult for him to breathe. The man’s father intervened, and a struggle ensued.
During the altercation, the gun discharged, hitting both Houchens and the father in the legs. Both were taken to T.J. Samson Hospital for treatment.
Houchens’ wife told deputies he had been drinking, threatened to take their children, and assaulted her during an argument. She said he grabbed and choked her, and deputies documented visible injuries to her neck.
Houchens was booked into the Barren County Detention Center early Friday. He faces multiple charges, including assault, strangulation and wanton endangerment.
All injuries in the incident were considered non-life threatening.
