Madisonville Police Department officials say a man is in jail after hitting and choking a victim on Tuesday evening.
According to a press release, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Scott Drive in reference to an assault report.
When officers spoke with the victim, they could see multiple fresh bruises and red marks on his face where he had been hit in the nose, mouth and head.
The victim also had a red mark on his back.
Officials say the victim told police the suspect, later identified as 25 year-old Brandon Nance of Madisonville, began an argument over money that the victim allegedly owed him.
They say Nance shoved the victim to the ground and proceeded to beat and momentarily choked him.
When police arrived, Nance had run away but was later found stumbling down the street.
Police say when they found him, they could smell alcohol on his breath.
Nance was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
He faces the charges of Assault (4th Degree) and Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place.
