A mother and her 2 children were kidnapped Friday morning by a man who invaded their home, stole their car and then robbed a bank.
Police said the man forced a mother and her two children into their car, a Mercedes SUV, and drove it to the PNC Bank on Shelbyville Road while armed with a knife. He then robbed the bank’s drive-thru teller before running away.
During the incident, the woman was stabbed in the abdomen, but the two children were unharmed but were very traumatized by the incident. The mother was taken to the UofL Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for her injuries and is expected to survive.
Police released pictures of the suspect, wearing a white mask and white hoodie as he ran from the scene and across Shelbyville Road toward the Norwood neighborhood.
According to St. Matthews Police Chief Wilkerson, officers arrested the suspect, 32-year-old Armond Langford, at around 4:20 p.m. on Friday after receiving a call that he was sighted in the Columbia and Harris area.
Officers chased the suspect as he tried to climb the fence near the Best Buy and were able to apprehend him.
Louisville Metro Police Department stated that Langford gave a full confession of Friday’s events and provided information about additional crimes dating back to 2018, where he robbed a Walgreens, Circle K and McDonald’s at gunpoint.
Langford was lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and is being charged with robbery, kidnapping, and assault.
